Scott mentioned maybe doing something outside of the normal niacc showing schedule like a trip to Mitzuwa or a movie night. Something along those lines.
So... that means we would need to know when people would be free to be able to do something like that. I wouldn't mind hosting a movie night on a day Kevin doesn't have work that night, so maybe with a little bit of coordination we can figure out a good time for everyone to be able to have group activities.
I actually have a really good movie I would like to share with the club sometime called Millennium Actress, so if we do a movie night that is something that I really really would like to share with everyone.
As for a trip to Mitzuwa, that also would need a bit of planning. We know that the food court doesn't open until... I think it was 11am so getting there too much earlier than that really doesn't work out too well in the long run. Also getting perishables from the grocery part is a bit dicey now that the weather has heated up. Also good to figure out is who would be driving and how many people they can fit in their car.
Other possible ideas for activities would be Anderson Gardens, DDR night, and anything else people have for a suggestion. Hope to hear more from everyone soon. |

A movie night sounds good and that will be the cheapest and easiest to setup.
While the ACEN forum is currently down for an upgrade, there is a posting on there about an Anderson Japanese Garden meetup on August 1st that I plan on going to. It will probably go something like: garden meetup >> Panino's restaurant >> CherryVale mall. I'll post a link once the ACEN forum is back online.
One idea was to have dinner at one of the newer Japanese restaurants:
Oriental Dragon has a new Sushi Buffet for example:
http://blogs.e-rockford.com/comingsandgoings/2010/03/31/oriental-dragon-offers-sushi-buffet-other-asian-fare/
Scott Xay Souvannasane said this about the place on my Japanese Rockford Facebook group:
I haven't had the chance to eat there often yet, but I appreciate their current attention to the flavors of their food. Having the whole dining experience be satisfying is important to me, especially when I have to consider my budget.
Of course we need to make sure they have a decent menu for people not interested in the classics like sushi.
Mitsuwa is always fun to visit. I'm up for that whenever. I can drive if necessary. My current vehicle can probably hold 3 - 4 others. I don't have an iPass, so we would have to go through the standard toll method of paying cash.
My availability is wide open for anything and everything. |

I forgot one other option.
http://www.soycon.com/
I was tossing around the idea of going to Soycon one of the 3 (technically 2) days it happens. My reason is for photography practice, but we could go on the Sunday for the picnic event as there will be a lot more to do and it is closer than downtown Chicago. July 10th and 11th are the primary days. It's free, so the cost to us would be transportation and food. |

| ClioMuse and I have an I-Pass, it would be no trouble to register anyone's car on it. |

The Soycon picnic on that Sunday is scheduled to be located here:
Google Maps Link
So it's only around 5 miles from Mitsuwa. |

Yet another thing we could go to:
http://www.japanfest-chicago.org/
June 26th or June 27th. It's going to be near Mitsuwa market. Both days start at 11:00 AM.
Japanese dance, Taiko, Koto, Minyo, Martial arts, crafts, flower arrangements, Kyoto info, Japan NOW, arts, food, and raffle. |

| Normally I have weekends off but my work schedule does not go that far. So I would have to wait and see what my schedule is before I say yes to June 26 and June 27. I will get back to you guys on that one. I do have to work this weekend because Dan D. took it off for a wedding or something. I will let you all know. |

So does that mean you want to go to that Japan Fest thing on the 26th and then have a movie night on the 27th? |

Well, having to deffer the movie night. Got sick and don't really want to share. =p
So the new tentative movie night is July 11th. Sorry for any inconvenience. |
