Looked about a bit on wiki because of the discussion last night.
"Final Fantasy VI was the third installment in the Final Fantasy series to be released in North America (after the original Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy IV). As a result, it was first released in North America as Final Fantasy III to maintain naming continuity. Due to various content guidelines imposed by Nintendo of America at the time, several other changes were made to the original North American version, including restrictions against nudity and profanity. The good news for those who want to play any of the old snes FF Games is that they were re-released as playstation games.
Final Fantasy Origins is the first two games (japanese numbering for all)
Final Fantasy Chronicles is 4 and Crono Trigger
Final Fantasy Anthology is 5 and 6
So other than FF3 (which is now avalible for the Nintendo DS) you can play all of your FF games up to 12 on the playstation 2. ^_^
Final Fantasy Tactics is also an estranged part of the final fantasy world. It's a job class turned based game which is a bit of a departure the ATB system employeed in most of the other PS1 FF games.
Most famous and memorable part of the the Final Fantasy 6 game for most people is what is affectionately refered to as the opera scene For the time and lack of sound options it's still a rather good song to be able to intergrate into the story line. Basically for those who haven't played the game there are up to 14 different playable characters in the game. The character singing is Celes.
Another interesting thing to notice in FF games is sometimes they seem to partially reference one another. For example in FF X2 one of the characters on the ship is named Shinra, which I believe was part of FF 7's plot line. Small spoiler for those who wish to read it is he made a comment towards the end of the game wondering how he could harness the energy that lay deep underground.
Anyways, figured I would get a bit of info up about a few of the different games, and leave it open for discussion and talking about your favorite moments. It's been a while since I've played a few of them so my recollections are a little hazy, hence siting references here and there.
(other small bit of info. The new game I"m hooked on is called Disgaea: Hour of Darkness)
